GUIDELINES FOR PREPARATION OF WRITTEN PAPERS FOR ALTA 2008 PUBLISHED PROCEEDINGS

Length of the paper: is not restricted and we invite solid technical input and detailed diagrams.

Delivery of Papers: Please email to ALTA in Word format to enable ALTA to make formatting amendments and make last minute corrections. Also kindly send a clean hard paper copy plus CD copy via express post or courier for reference purposes.

(Please note: email file size can often be be significantly reduced by "cutting" the picture or diagram then using the "Special Paste" function to paste in JPEG or GIF format.)

Software: Microsoft Word for Office '97 and above.

Please use following format: click to download example paper.

  • Paper Size: Australian A4 (297mm wide x 210 mm deep)
  • Title Page: This should include paper title, author(s) and affiliations, presenter's name and email address.
  • The contents: should show only main section headings and page numbers.
  • Fonts for title page and contents: Arial 14 capitals for title of paper and Arial 12 for other text. click to download example title page.
  • Font for main text: Arial - size: 10 point.
  • Fonts for Sections and Headings:
  • 1. MAIN HEADING -10 point bold caps (centred, not underlined)
  • 1.1 SUB HEADING -10 point bold caps (aligned left, not underlined)
    1.1.1 Heading -10 point bold, sentence case (aligned left, not underlined)
  • Bullet points used as required
  • Margins: Top 1.8cm, Bottom 1.8cm, Left 2.7cm, Right 2.7cm
  • Page Numbers: Bottom centre, title page to be page 1 but number not to be shown.
  • Tables & Figures: Tables, figures & flowsheets should be embedded into the electronic document.
  • Diagrams: are to be portrait layout (not landscape). Proceedings will be printed out in black and white. Therefore please check that diagrams will be clear and legible when printed.
  • Format for photo and diagrams: JPEG or GIF where possible.

Deadline for papers: The target date for receiving final papers is the end of March 2008. However, we can accommodate through to the end of April 2008 if you need extra time. Earlier submission would be greatly appreciated.

Speaker CV: Please email a brief (half page) CV or resume to ALTA, to be used as an introduction to your session - click here for example CV .

Late Submission of papers: If you are unable to meet the deadline please advise ALTA of the anticipated later date to enable ALTA to make arrangements for its inclusion in the proceedings. The proceedings will be mounted in ring binders to enable the delegates to insert late papers distributed at the conference.

 

GUIDELINES FOR PRESENTATIONS IN THE CONFERENCE SESSIONS

Please prepare a 30-minute presentation. This will be followed by a 5-10 minute Q & A open to the floor. You are not required to present your whole paper, but may simply refer to various sections during your presentation. However, all the material you are presenting should be included in the written paper, particularly tables and diagrams.

Presentation Software: Microsoft PowerPoint for Office '97 and above.

Presentation Template: A selection of four templates have been produced as a guide for your slide layout in MS PowerPoint. Click to download the PowerPoint templates.

Screen Size: Please note that a standard screen size of 12 x 9 feet will be used.

Presentation CD or Memory Stick: Please bring two copies of your presentation on CD or memory stick to the conference, and provide one copy to the Audio Visual Technician at the speaker's breakfast. ALTA recommends you travel with the CDs in your carry-on bag during airline flights, in case your checked luggage goes astray. Please note that you do not need to send a copy of the presentation to ALTA unless the presentation is to be included in the proceedings in place of a written paper.

Use of Alternative Presentation Templates: Use of alternative presentation templates is acceptable provided that the design has been proven in previous presentations and "ALTA 2008" is included on each slide.

Speaker's Preparation Room: the Boardroom on the main conference floor at the Sheraton Hotel will be available for you to run through your presentation and familiarize yourself with equipment. Laptop computers will be available .

Speaker's Breakfast & Briefing: It is compulsory for all speakers to attend the speaker's breakfast at 7 am on the morning of their session in the Boardroom at the Sheraton Hotel on the main conference floor. The purpose is to hand over presentations to the Audio Visual Technician, meet with the Session Chairperson, be briefed on procedures and discuss any queries.
