ALTA 2018 is the 23rd year of one of the world’s premier annual metallurgical events.  This gathering of the global Nickel, Cobalt, Copper, Uranium, Rare Earths, Lithium, Gold and Precious Metals industries features highly-focused programs, topical forums and key international presenters.  ALTA is even bigger this year with the addition of a new event In Situ Recovery (ISR) Symposium, organised in cooperation with CSIRO.

How do I submit an abstract?

  • Online submission using the ALTA 2018 template by 31 January (provisional deadline).
  • Abstracts must be a minimum of 250 words to a maximum of one page.
  • Notification of acceptance into the program will be sent by email.
  • Accepted abstracts will be published.

What is ALTA’s copyright policy?

  • ALTA’s policy is to share copyright with authors, therefore authors are not permitted to assign copyright to a third party.
  • Authors may present the paper at another conference after ALTA 2018 provided the paper includes acknowledgement that the paper was first presented at ALTA 2018.
  • Authors may publish their paper in third-party publications provided the paper includes acknowledgement it was first presented at ALTA 2018.
  • Warning: Please research any journal prior to publishing as authors may be approached by predatory publishers. For possible suspect publishers, visit http://beallslist.weebly.com/. If you are unsure, please contact ALTA.
  • Authors are not permitted to publish the full papers on social media, but are encouraged to publish the abstract before and after the conference.
  • Submission of a paper is deemed to be acceptance of the Author & Presenter Guidelines, including copyright.

Do I have to prepare a written paper?

  • Yes (unless by special prior agreement with ALTA).
  • Papers must be prepared in accordance with the Author & Presenter Guidelines. Papers that do not comply with the guidelines will be returned for reformatting.
  • Papers must have a technical focus; marketing-based papers are not appropriate will not be accepted.
  • Typical length of papers is 8-15 pages, although longer papers are acceptable.
  • All papers accepted into the program must be presented. If circumstances arise that a presenter cannot attend the conference, please contact ALTA to discuss alternative arrangements.

How do I submit my paper?

  • The deadline for submission is 31 March (extensions may be provided on request).
  • Papers must be prepared in accordance with the Author & Presenter Guidelines. Papers that do not comply with the guidelines will be returned for reformatting.
  • Papers must be submitted online in Microsoft Word format; with a PDF version attached for reference.  The submission portal can accept files up to 40MB.
  • Please check your paper carefully before submitting as updates will not be accepted until post-conference updates are invited by ALTA.
  • We recommend asking a colleague to review the paper for technical content, language and spelling. For authors whose first language is not English, we recommend review by a professional technical editing service.
  • After the conference, ALTA will send the master version of papers to presenters for update and return. Updates of the original submitted version will not be accepted.

How can I promote my paper?

  • Announce your participation via LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook and your organisation’s website and newsletters.
  • Publish your abstract on LinkedIn. Note: Publishing of full papers on social media is prohibited.
  • Send your abstract to your client/contact list and invite them to attend.
  • Insert the ALTA 2018 Presenter Button into your email signature, website and social media pages (available 15 October).

Do I need to provide a bio?

  • Yes, so we may properly introduce your presentation to the audience.
  • Presenter bios must be submitted online in ALTA 2018 format (download template).

Do I need a Visa?

Do I need to register to attend the conference?

  • Yes! All presenters must register and pay to attend by 28 February (registration opens 1 November).
  • Each accepted paper receives one presenter discount registration. Co-presenters and co-authors must register using advertised rates.
  • Presenters receive 50% off registration fees for the event in which they are presenting. Presenters who wish to attend the full-week conference will receive 30% off standard rates.
  • Further discounts offered to presenters who are sole consultants, unemployed or retired.
  • Student presenters may register using the student rates.
  • Presenter registrations are not transferrable and sharing is not permitted.

What is included with my registration?

  • Technical sessions (corresponding to registration type).
  • Online access to papers during the conference and final e-proceedings book after the conference (by 31 July). Uranium-REE-LI/Gold-PM attendees receive passwords and proceedings for both sessions.
  • Daily arrival coffee, morning tea, buffet lunch and afternoon tea.
  • Welcome Reception and/or Happy Hour is included (corresponding to registration type).  Conference Dinner tickets are an an additional cost for all participants.
  • Complimentary satchel and sponsor gifts, attendee list and complimentary Wi-Fi.

Will you provide catering to suit my special dietary requirements?

  • Yes! Please advise your dietary requirements during the registration process.
  • During lunches, tea breaks and cocktail functions, a separate catering station will provide special requests. During the dinner, please identify yourself to staff.
  • Most dietary requirements can be catered by Pan Pacific Perth in-house at no additional cost.
  • Kosher meals must be prepared offsite and delivered daily, and therefore will attract additional charges – a quote will be provided on request.

How do I book a hotel room?

  • Pan Pacific Perth provides the cheapest rates available for the conference dates through the official ALTA 2018 online booking site (opens 1 November).
  • Book early to to avoid disappointment; bookings cannot be guaranteed after 4 May.
  • No pre-payment required and penalty-free cancellations are accepted until 4pm on the day of arrival.
  • Beware of unauthorised hotel solicitations. The only legitimate booking method is via the official booking portal. No third-party booking service is endorsed by or affiliated with the conference.

How do I get a copy of the proceedings?

  • Papers will be made available to attendees electronically during the conference.
  • Access passwords will be sent to delegates 16 May and activated on 19 May. Refer to the email entitled “ALTA 2018 Access to Papers”. Sharing passwords is strictly prohibited.
  • The final proceedings book will be provided to conference attendees by download link after the conference (by 31 July).

How do I submit my presentation?

  • Presentations must be prepared in accordance with the ALTA 2018 Author & Presenter Guidelines.  Please allow 25 minutes for presentation and 5 minutes for questions.
  • Bring your presentation on a USB drive in PowerPoint format to the Presenter Briefing on the day of your talk for uploading to AV equipment. Do not submit prior.

What should I do when I arrive at the venue?

  • Check in at the conference registration desk to collect your lanyard and satchel.  Note: Correct lanyards must be worn at all times.

What should I do on the day of my presentation?

  • All presenters must attend the Presenter Briefing on the day of presentation.
  • The briefing is held at 7:30am in the Goldsworthy room, and breakfast will be provided).  This important gathering includes introductions, program updates and AV familiarisation.
  • Bring your presentation to the briefing on a USB stick. Do not submit prior.
  • The Goldsworthy room is available to presenters all day on the day of presentation.

Is Wi-Fi available at the venue?

  • Yes. Complimentary Wi-Fi will be available in the conference venue for ALTA 2018 attendees. Details in your welcome pack.
  • Complimentary Wi-Fi will be available in the hotel for in-house guests.

What is the dress code?

  • The dress code for the conference sessions and all social functions is business suit or business casual.
